Mayoral candidate Gary Gardiner has released the latest plank in his game changer platform.

This one focuses on what he calls responsible property taxes.

He pledges to keep tax increases low, remain focused on the city’s priorities, and stop the taxation migration.

Gardiner says on a home assessed at $300,000 the taxes in North Bay are higher than in Callander, East Ferris and Nipissing Township.

He says this can impact growth.

However he says lower taxes don’t necessarily mean better.

He points out North Bay has advantages too including safe drinking water, full time firefighters, 24 hour police service and a hospital.

Gardiner says the city needs to invest in the community through taxes but those investments must be strategic, realistic and prioritized and residents must get value out of the investments.
