The Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team is gearing up for the 2018-19 season.
Officials say they have depth, strength and versatility at each position with a solid core of returning players with playoff experience.
With depth, strength and versatility at each position, officials say they’re poised for a big year.

Coach Mike McParland told BayToday they need big years from captain Erik Robichaud, Dan Desrochers and a bounceback year from Colin Campbell.

He says they’re hoping for more offense from Brett Hargrave.

“We hope he builds on his double digit goal scoring season that he had a year ago. We hope he can add 5 or 6 to that total,” he says.

McParland says they have depth in net with Brent Moran and Domenic Graham.

McParland likes some of their new acquisitions too but one stands out.

“Our exhibition season has shown us that Colby Tower is a speed demon. He’s had a very good exhibition season. He’s not a big guy. He’s kind of gritty. He’s a small fast centre,” he says.

Their first game of the season is at 7:30 pm Saturday at Memorial Gardens against UOIT.

In OUA soccer, the Nipissing men are home to Trent on Friday then UOIT on Saturday.
The Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team is taking part in an exhibition event in Hamilton.

Also this weekend, the Lakers rowing team is at the Brock Invitational in St Catharines on Saturday.
