The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities is welcoming the province’s plan to develop a provincial forestry strategy to reduce red tape and create an environment that supports growth and competitiveness within the sector.

The Ford government recently announced nine roundtable sessions will be held over the coming months, including one in North Bay.

They’re gathering input from the forest industry, municipal leaders and Indigenous communities.

FONOM is looking forward to giving input and says forestry is the backbone of many communities across the North and provides good paying jobs while encouraging biodiversity and the protection of wildlife habitats.

They look forward to being part of the discussion.
