The province is freezing the minimum wage at $14 an hour for 33 months, after which it will go up by the rate of inflation.

The PC government also announced it’s rolling back other labour reforms, including two paid days of emergency leave, because it says the measures stifled economic development.

The North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce is pleased, saying the province is listening to the business community.

Meantime, the reforms will be the focus of a rally today (Wednesday) on the Lakeshore overpass.

Nipissing Decent Work says the changes are an attack on low-income workers and others, like women and newcomers, who are disproportionately represented in precarious jobs.
