The Federal Minister of Seniors Filomena Tassi was in North Bay yesterday. She met with stakeholders at Canadore College and Cassellholme. She says isolation of seniors is a big issue in the north.

“The New Horizons For Seniors program is one program that we combat isolation. There are also issues like transportation ensuring that seniors are getting the appropriate care that they need. And if they don’t need to be in the hospital we don’t want them in hospital,” Tassi says.

Tassi says it’s important that all governments work together for the betterment of seniors and that includes provincial and municipal governments.

At Canadore she received a tour of the new Village project. She says she’s impressed with what’s going on there and the plans to connect seniors with young people.

“To allow the youth to have the ability to recognize the amazing contributions, insight, wisdom, sense of humour that seniors have is a model for the country,” she says.

Minister Tassi also met the oldest living canadian who lives at Cassellholme. Dolly Gibb is 113.
