130.9 million dollars. That’s the annual economic impact of Nipissing University on the North Bay area.

The KPMG study also shows that over 12-hundred jobs were created in 2016/17 as a result of spending related to Nipissing.

The University is also one of the top three employers in the North Bay region.

An event on Friday releasing the results of the study was held at North Bay City Hall.

University president Dr. Mike DeGagne says they wanted to make the point they are impacting the community and the relationship between the university and the city is on the upswing.

Mayor Al McDonald who wants to grow the population by 10,000 in the next decade says keeping the students in the community after they graduate is key.
