Friday could be a messy weather day in the North Bay area.

Environment Canada says parts of the northeast and central Ontario will be on the western edge of a large weather system that day.

The agency says although the heaviest snow will likely fall over Quebec, some areas may see snowfall amounts approaching 15 cm by the time the snow tapers off Saturday morning.

Precipitation may start out as rain before changing to snow — with the threat of freezing rain.
