An increase in gas tax funding for the City of North Bay.

The province has allocated 895-thousand dollars for the city for 2018-19.

That’s over 26-thousand more than last year’s amount.

The money can go toward several areas of the city’s budget and the chair of Engineering and Works Councillor Mike Anthony likes that.

“Knowing that it is under the same parameters. Some of it can be used for infrastructure and some of it can be used for operating like extending hours or routes is very good,” he says.

The money can also be spent on buying additional transit vehicles, implementing fare strategies and improving accessibility.

He says the announcement is timely for the city as this is the first year that this department is responsible for transit. It was previously handled by Community Services.
