The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has downgraded the flood warning issued earlier for parts of West Nipissing to a water conditions statement.
The ministry says ice strength has been impacted due to ice flex from water sitting on top of the ice but flooding is not expected.
The statement is for the entire area bordering the Sturgeon River above the West Nipissing Power Dam at Sturgeon Falls within the Municipality of West Nipissing and Springer Township.
And for Municipalities, Townships and Residents that border the Sturgeon River above the Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Crystal Falls Generating Station including the communities of Field and River Valley as well as Grant, Field, Badgerow, Gibbons, Crerar, Janes and Dana Townships.
The new advisory is in effect until Monday at 12:00 AM.

technical information

As an update to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s Flood Warning issued late yesterday afternoon, West Nipissing Power has been able to repair the issue at their dam and as a result are safely able to pass water, removing the threat of flooding above the dam at this time.
The ice strength above West Nipissing Power Generation’s Dam at Sturgeon Falls and above Ontario Power Generation’s facility at Crystal Falls on the Sturgeon River may have been compromised from higher water levels over the last 24 hours creating unsafe conditions and flexing ice. It is recommended that people stay off of the ice at this time.
This message is subject to change as more information becomes available.
