A redevelopment agreement between the Ontario Government and Cassellholme could be a couple of weeks away.

Last night, city council passed a motion asking the Minister of Health and Long Term Care to obtain all the government approvals so the redevelopment can go ahead.

The final stumbling block was South Algonquin.

It wasn’t willing to sign off on an up front amount on the capital side.

Last month, the Casselholme board released South Algonquin from future contributions on the capital side and all participating municipalities must do the same for the agreement to go ahead.

Board chair Councillor Chris Mayne says the next step if all this is done is to put the project out to tender.

“Come back to the board with those costs. And if everything is reasonably close to our expectations we’ll go back to the member municipalities, sign off on long term contracts and construction can begin,” he says.

Mayne says the redevelopment would include the replacement of 240 beds, the addition of 8 behavioral support beds and 16 more beds as well. He says it’s been budgeted at $62 million.
