It appears the days of the Summer In The Park event are about to end.

Community Services Committee chair Councillor Johanne Brousseau says the last year of the event in 2018 culminated in a $244,000 defict but the downswing in the popularity of the event has happened over several years.

“They didn’t like the price, the venue, the wrong weekend. It’s hard to find out what people want after the fact,” she says.

In its place the plan is to put $40,000 into a fund that will be spent on one or more events put on by the event hosting program at city hall.

She says details will be announced next month.

“It’s 4 or 5 organizations working together for 1 weekend,” Brousseau says.

Brousseau says the axe will probably come down on Summer In The Park once the budget is passed in March.
