The Ontario government says 63 per cent of university students who took a province-wide survey on campus sexual violence reported they have experienced some type of sexual harassment.
Nearly 50 per cent of college students surveyed reported the same.
Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities Merrilee Fullerton called the results of the survey completed by 116,000 university students and 42,000 college students disturbing.
She committed $6 million in grant funding to bolster sexual violence programs on campus.
The province will also now require all colleges and universities to report annually on the measures taken to support students who have experienced sexual violence.
Dr. Casey Phillips, Assistant Vice-President, Students at Nipissing University says the results will be useful in fulfilling Nipissing’s ongoing commitment to providing safe learning and working environments which are free of sexual harassment or sexual violence.

He says the school is determined to take actions that will improve sexual violence prevention, support, and response efforts and they’ll create a task force dedicated to tackling sexual violence on campus.

He says the findings will be reported to the university and the government.
