North Bay City Council has signed off on ordering the equipment estimated at $180,000 for the North Bay Splash Pad.

Most of the project is being provided through fundraising efforts by the area rotary clubs and Friday was the deadline to order the equipment and that needed council approval.

Councillor Dave Mendicino says the clubs are providing $500,000 in funding and the city $80,000.

He says they deserve lots of credit.

“With the demands in our capital budget and the infrastructure that we need to do including the community centre, Cassellhome and Cassells Street I couldn’t see doing this project this summer without the rotary clubs stepping up,” he says.

The city’s share is for underground work.

Mendicino says once the splash pad opens there’s another big reason to check out downtown and the waterfront.

“We know the demand for a splash pad. Citizens have been asking for that for a number of years. We know it is going to attract people to the downtown and the waterfront and that’s what we need,” Mendicino says.
