Donation supports effort to improve lives for animals

Thanks to a $100,000 donation form Pet Valu, the North Bay and District Humane Society is able to transport pets in distress to a more comfortable place.

The money is paying for a vehicle dubbed The Rescue Express.

Humane Society Executive Director Liam Cullin told BayToday they’ve been busy going to communities picking up the animals and transporting them.

“With this donation we’re certainly able to help more animals. The truck itself and the trailer can accommodate up to forty dogs at a time or up to seventy-five cats at a time,” Cullin says.

He says overall, forty dogs, two hundred and fifty cats and sixty smaller animals have been transported and more transports are coming.

Cullin says there’s also air conditioning in the vehicle and sheeting for comfort for the animals.

Local franchisee for Pet Valu Paul Turner told BayToday this is something quite unique.

“I don’t think there’s another operation like this anywhere. There are large amount of animals being moved because they have to be moved. Southern Ontario is a good place to go because the market is larger down there,” Turner says.
