A Globe and Mail report has led to a Nipissing University investigation of a student-teacher.

The Globe report involved a student-teacher making comments in a far-right online discussion group about raising doubts about the holocaust in a middle-school classroom.

In an internal communication this week, Nipissing says they’re investigating to identify the student and will conduct a degree audit.

They’ve also contacted potential schools where the placement took place along with the Ontario College and Teachers.

They also “reinforce that there is no room for bigotry, intolerance, and racism at Nipissing University”.

Nipissing provided our newsroom with a copy of the internal communication. Below is the full text:

Nipissing University was first made aware of these allegations on Saturday, April 27th, after the article was published. We have since initiated an investigation into the identity of the student in question.
The university administration has already taken a number of steps to address this situation.
In addition to investigating the student in question, we have been in contact with potential schools in which the placement took place to ensure that we have a comprehensive understanding of what transpired. Further, we have contacted the Ontario College of Teachers to ensure that they are kept apprised of developments. Finally, we will be conducting our own degree audit of the student in question.
We will continue to strive to create an environment that is inclusive, diverse, welcoming and safe. We want to reinforce that there is no room for bigotry, intolerance, and racism at Nipissing University.
