North Bay’s own Larry Keenan is watching this year’s Stanley Cup Final with a lot of interest.

The last time the two teams competed against each other for the Cup was 1970, when Keenan played for the Blues.

He says he was disappointed with the result of game one, but with a more consistent effort Keenan thinks the Blues can even the series tonight.

The game is on Sportsnet and CBC at 8 pm.

Back in 1970, Boston won the first three games and Keenan’s goal, his 7th of the playoffs, in game four gave the Blues a 3-2 lead.

However, the Bruins tied it up and won the game and the series on Bobby Orr’s famous, flying-through-the-air, overtime winner (pictured above).

He says his pals are giving him a hard time over how that series ended.

“They’re giving me the raspberry. People are saying you’re cheering for the Blues and I am,” he says.

Keenan says they knew they were over-matched going into that series, but doesn’t feel that way about this year’s team and their chances of winning the Stanley Cup.

He also has great memories of St. Louis.

“My wife enjoyed St.Louis, my kids enjoyed it and my youngest son was born there. I think it’s a great city,” Keenan says.

The Blues first goal in franchise history was scored by Keenan in the fall of 1967.
