There’s an exhibit up and running at the North Bay Museum and it highlights the history of the North Bay Fire Department from its beginning to today.

Ablaze: Firefighting in North Bay covers the major fires.

The exhibits includes photos and artifacts.

The North Bay Deputy Fire Chief, Greg Saunders, says there have been major fires including the Richardson’s fire, the Frank and Freddie’s Fire and the Lefebvre’s fire.

“We need to do a better job of fire prevention in making sure these fires don’t happen. These buildings are all very old downtown and require special consideration. We have to make a concerted effort to prevent fires on those buildings,” he says.

Retired Platoon Chief John Sutherland says the exhibit shows the differences in equipment as well as detailing some of the major fires worked on over the years.

“The changes are unbelievable. Firefighters today have super equipment. The city should be very pleased to have a department like this. The public should be very happy that these guys are so well trained,” he says.

The exhibit is open until September 7th. This weekend, there’s no charge to check it out during Bay Days.
