Local post-secondary students will soon have the chance to design games instead just playing them.

Canadore College’s board has approved a new game design and development program.

Pending provincial approval, the college is looking to start the program in the fall of 2021.

Graduates will be qualified to work as game developer and designers, interactive media developers and new technology producers — and officials say there’s going to be plenty of jobs available.

They say the industry is expecting to see over 52-thousand job openings between now and 2026.

The college says their program will be different from others in that it’s a three-year advanced diploma that combines skills development for artistic and technical aspects of game production.
