An off-season signing for the Powassan Voodoos.

The NOJHL club has added 6’5” defenceman Riley Pitt, who scored four goals and had seven assists in 33 games with the North Central Minor Midget AAA Predators last season.

Pitt was selected in the seventh round of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection by the Oshawa Generals.

In a release, the team says Pitt was encouraged to join the Voodoos through a couple of factors, including his family ties to the area.

“I chose the NOJHL and the Voodoos specifically because it has a good reputation for developing players for Junior, major junior and further on through their hockey careers,” stated the 16-year-old Wasaga Beach product.

Pitt says he heard good things about the program through teammate and Saginaw Spirit first-round OHL draft pick Connor Punnett, who hails from Powassan and affiliated with the Voodoos last season.

“I recently had a good friend of mine affiliate with the Voodoos last season and he had a blast,” said Pitt.

“He told me everyone there was respectful, nice and welcomed him to the team like it was his own.

“With the majority of my family being from North Bay the decision was clear Powassan was the right place for me.”

Voodoos new associate GM Brent Tomlinson, who is originally from North Bay, played a role in bringing Pitt to the Voodoos.

“Riley is a big kid at 6’5″ who moves well and can skate the puck when needed,” stated the Voodoos associate GM and Director of Scouting.

“I’ve been impressed with his composure and completeness as a player which allows him to be utilized in all moments to the game.”

The Voodoos also announced that they have moved veteran rearguard Carson Lux to the Red Lake Miners of the SIJHL for a development fee.

Pitt will join the Voodoos at training camp on August 23.
