The city says it is accepting proposals to build the new community and recreation centre, featuring a twin-pad arena.

The new facility will be built at the Steve Omischl Sports Complex.

The winner of the contract will provide architectural, structural, electrical and mechanical work.

The deadline for submissions is August 7th. with the contract expected to be awarded in September.

Construction is anticipated to get underway by the fall of 2020.

Community Services Committee Chair Councillor Johanne Brousseau says there will be updates on the project to residents on a regular basis.

“I know that once we get a concept from the architect there will be input and the sharing of ideas with the public,” she says.

Brousseau says she’s been re-assured by staff that any cost overruns will be controlled because this is not a renovation.

She says originally the project was supposed to start construction in the spring but it’s important they get it right because this project is a big deal.
