Later this month the city is expected provide a beach mat to help people with accessibility concerns enjoy a day at the beach.

It will be named Wheels To the Water in recognition of the late Adam “Wheels” Miller, who was a member of the city’s Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee.

Adam’s sister, Candace Penasse, says Adam would have been touched with the honour.

“I remember after meetings he’d be so frustrated that things weren’t going his way. He fought to the end and he’s smiling down and so happy this is going to be happening,” she says.

Adam’s dad Wayne couldn’t be happier that the mat will be named after Adam.

“We’re very, very thankful and very, very proud. It means a lot to our family for them to acknowledge him and to have his name on it. It means a lot,” Wayne says.

Councillor Tanya Vrebosch says the beaches are for everyone and the accessibility mats are going to make a big difference.

The initial plan was to have the mat at Marathon Beach but no final decision has been made yet.
