Last week, Mr. Fedeli went to Washington.

The province’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade met with Canada’s ambassador to the U.S. David McNaughton about the U.S. governments buy America initiative and how it’s impacting Canadian businesses.

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says Ottawa needs to speak up more on the issue.

“That’s an absolutely horrible condition that would exclude so many Ontario companies and other Canadian companies. We need the federal government to step up and fight this job killing movement of the American government,” he says.

Fedeli says the buy America initiative shouldn’t be part of the NAFTA agreement and he’s disappointed Ottawa hasn’t negotiated the initiative out of the deal.

He says 75 per cent of the value of any components in “Made in America” products must to be sourced in the U.S and 95 per cent of steel and iron used in any public contract must be from the U.S.

Fedeli also met with provincial government representatives around the United States, from San Francisco, Chicago and Dallas.
