The 43rd annual Mattawa River Canoe Race goes Saturday.

110 people in 68 canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards will travel the 64 km from Trout Lake in North Bay to the Mattawa Island Conservation Area, making their way through lakes, rivers, fast moving water and up to 12 portages.

Officials say paddlers, in 13 categories, are coming from all across Ontario, Quebec, BC and even one from Cote D’Ivoire, Africa to take part.

 

The latest Ontario Gateway North Habitat for Humanity home is being celebrated on Saturday.

Officials are gathering for a dedication ceremony in Emsdale.

Earlier this year, the keys to the sixth Habitat home in North Bay were handed over to the Rochefort family.

Officials say affordable homeownership fosters skills and confidence and free families to invest in themselves and their communities.

 

A local fundraiser for a four year old girl with cancer is taking place at the 406 Squadron Banquet Hall on First Ave West on Saturday.

The “Dancing For Aria Family Dance” includes a bbq, dance, games and more.

The fundraiser will help with travel and other costs for the family.

Tickets are $15 per person or $50 for family of four.
