Country music is taking over the Bill Barber Complex in Callander this weekend.

The 31st annual Open Country Singing Contest goes today through Sunday.

Organizer Harley Renaud says it’s always a popular event.

“Oh yeah, for sure! Parking is at a premium but we manage to get them in there somehow. We have more contestants this year, we have 72 contestants this year, so this is going to be great,” he says.

Competitors are coming in from across Ontario for the event.

“There’s a male and female open, an 18 and under class, a 50 plus class, we have the 12 and under karaoke and we also have the duet class,” Renaud says.

The finals go Sunday.

There’s also food and other vendors on site.

For those who don’t want to worry about parking there’s a shuttle bus from Northgate at 11 am each day, returning at 9 pm.

The cost is $5 each way.
