The city and Kiwanis Club of Nipissing are teaming up to install new accessible and age-friendly playground equipment at Lee Park.

Kiwanis Past President Ralph Celentano says research was done for the project.

“The city Parks Department has done a marvelous job in accessing information from NADY, One Kids Place and the Autism Ontario representitive,” he says.

The equipment will be accessible and inclusive.

Swingsets that are designed for folks in wheelchairs, spinners instead of merry-go-rounds, teeter totters that accept kids from all different walks of life,” Celentano says.

The new equipment also includes wide ramps, large decks and sensory panels.

Celentano says Kiwanis has been involved in the park for quite a long time.

“Kiwanis has been supporting this Lee Park program since 1971, the members of Kiwanis have done different installations, it’s thanks to those families that have donated to our park bench program along the waterfront,” he says, pointing out funds go to the beautification program and the playground equipment.

The installation is expected to be completed by October.

The current equipment is being removed this week.
