Mark King, the local People’s Party of Canada candidate in the upcoming federal election isn’t happy the leader of the party won’t be taking part in the election debates set for October 7th and 10th.

The debate election commission says the People’s Party has not yet met one of the criteria to participate in the debates namely that the party isn’t represented in the House of Commons by an MP who was elected as a member of that party.

King isn’t pleased with the decision.

“It’s unfortunate that’s happened because Maxime Bernier would be an excellent debater. If he’s not allowed to enter it just shows we’re not an open and free country,” King says.

King told BayToday the decision doesn’t make a lot of sense.

“A lot of the party’s policies are designed with the average persons needs in mind,” he says.

The debates will go ahead at this point with five leaders.
