The North Bay delegation at this week’s Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference has met with two provincial cabinet ministers:

Christine Elliot who is in charge of Health and the Minister of Finance Rod Phillips.

Councillor Tanya Vrebosch says it’s too soon to say what the impact will be for the city on the decision to reduce child-care and public-health funding.

She says more will be known next month when the municipal budget process gets underway.

“This could increase the services people are seeing. But if they’re looking at reducing costs we could see an impact and lose services. Right now, it’s an unknown,” Vrebosch says.

Vrebosch says there’ll be no change to the Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding in 2020 but the province isn’t committing to multi year funding yet either and that’s something the city wants.

As well, the associate minister of health will be coming to North Bay and see for himself what the city’s going through.
