North Bay Mayor Al McDonald says he’s pleased with an announcement by the Premier at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference.

Doug Ford says the government would be opening up the intake for the Community, Culture and Recreation Stream on September 3rd as part of the federal Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

McDonald told BayToday that’s good news for the city and its desire to get the community centre funded but they need federal involvement too.

“We want to make sure the federal government is on side with whatever projects we pick so we get the maximum funding possible from the provincial and federal governments,” he says.

Meantime, land ambulance services funding is going up by four per cent this year but there are cuts to child-care and public-health services.

The government says there will be transitional funding to help municipalities deal with this.
