The pre-season came to a close on the weekend for the North Bay Battalion as they dropped both games of a home and home series to Owen Sound.

After a 4-3 shootout loss on the road Saturday, the Troops were shutout 4-0 yesterday at Memorial Gardens.

Former Battalion forward Adam McMaster scored twice for the Attack on Sunday.

North Bay starts playing for points on Friday with their regular season and home opener against Barrie.

 

The Toronto Maple Leafs trimmed their training camp roster to 54 players yesterday, with former Battalion captain Justin Brazeau re-assigned to the Toronto Marlies.

He and 14 other players will skate with the Maple Leafs Player Development Staff ahead of the Marlies’ 2019 training camp, which opens next week.

 

The Powassan Voodoos played three games in three days on the road this past weekend and won all three games.

After shutting out Cochrane 4-0 on Friday, the Voodoos defeated Hearst 5-3 on Saturday and won 5-4 in overtime yesterday in Timmins.

 

In exhibition men’s hockey, the Nipissing Lakers scored a 3-0win over Laurentian on Saturday.

In women’s soccer, the Lakers split their two games this weekend.

After a 1-0 win over Carleton on Saturday Nipissing lost 8-nothing to Ottawa yesterday.

The men lost 3-0 to Carleton on Saturday then 3-2 in Toronto yesterday.

In lacrosse, Nipissing picked up their second win of the season, 8-4 over Bishops on Saturday.

 

In NDA senior boys football, Algonquin opened the season with a 13-10 win over St Joseph-Scollard Hall on Friday night while West Ferris and Widdifield tied 14-all.
