The countdown is on to Culture Days in the city.

Events go Friday, September 27th through Sunday, September 29th.

The line-up includes an intercultural workshop and gallery hop on Friday.

Co-chair Susan Terry says Saturday the 28th is the big day, starting with a masque parade and the opening ceremonies at the bandshell on the waterfront.

She says they’ve been going into the schools over the past couple of weeks to prepare.

With West Ferris, Silver Birches and Nbisiing Secondary School, doing masque workshops. Many of these students will be displaying their masques in this parade,” she says.

There’s also an international drum and dance festival, international food festival and block party that day.

Next Sunday is all about family with a pop-up picnic, drum and dance family workshop and more.

Terry says a follow up event, a seniors tea time and cultural art exhibit, is being held on Tuesday, October 1st to mark National Seniors Day.

“We are honouring our seniors in the community and there will be workshops with them during the festival, and leading up to it, and those art works will be displayed at 176 Lakeshore,” she says.

The only event that has a cost is the International Food Festival, which is $10 to sample ten different foods, with the rest of the festival being free.
