New mining safety equipment developed locally

Final field testing is underway on a new piece of safety equipment developed by a local mining company.

Safesight Exploration, in collaboration with Redpath Canada, has created the MRC Rail Runner which officials say improves safety and performance by decreasing worker exposure and increasing productivity.

Installed on a rail, the robotic equipment performs video inspections.

The local company says it’s most beneficial use is after a blast to complete a face inspection without delay before work continues.

Full release of the MRC Rail Runner to the mine construction sector is expected next month.
