The local candidates will gather for another federal election debate tonight in North Bay.

The YourTV debate goes at 7 pm on channels 12 and 700.

On the campaign trail yesterday, federal Liberal candidate Anthony Rota had some support.

He was joined by provincial Liberal leadership candidate Steven Del Duca.

Pointing to cuts made in Ontario, Del Duca says electing candidates like Rota is key so that Andrew Scheer doesn’t come to power.

He says cuts in education are just one example.

“Class sizes are going up. Course selections are being limited. We know from past experience that graduation rates will drop and test scores will go down. It’s moving Ontario in the wrong direction,” he says.

Meantime, Mark King (pictured below), the People’s Party of Canada candidate opened his campaign office on Airport Road.

He told BayToday at the office on Airport Road immigration is a key party plank and reducing numbers is key.

Other major issues are taxation, job creation and the environment.

Also on the campaign trail on Monday, the NDP’s Rob Boulet says the party announced their “new deal for northern Ontario”.

The platform is based on 5 keys priorities that include:
– Putting reconciliation at the heart of our work
– Making life more affordable for Northern Ontario families
– A plan for jobs and growth
– Protecting Northern Ontario’s environment and fighting the climate crisis
– Strong public services Northern Ontario families can rely on

Boulet says the NDP is the only party that has a plan specifically for northern Ontario.
