Canadore College has dedicated seven rooms at the college to mental health awareness.

Thanks to support from Canada Life a number of rooms are now known as the Canada Life Mental Health Counselling Rooms.

President and Chief Operating Officer, Canada, for Canada Life Jeff Macoun says it’s important to focus on mental health well being in the community and the workplace.

College officials point out the rooms are available to any college program or community agency that requires private areas for learning.

College president George Burton says the new rooms give students a space to learn to use effective counselling skills in a real-world environment, which can help lead to positive change for people experiencing mental health and addictions issues.

It was also announced Canada Life is providing funding for two annual student bursaries, empowering people who may have faced financial barriers to obtain admission to the college.
