The city will be allowing the use of PHOS-CHEK, a simulated snow, once again in Film and TV productions starting this week.

This after a new policy was developed, with the industry, involving the use of chemicals for special effects.

The policy requires environmental management plans, detailing how chimicals will be contained and kept out of the environment.

A release from the city says, “That includes, but is not limited to, frequency of use, application method, conditions, procedures, plans for clean-up and containment mitigation, as well as restricted areas of use such as directly into waterways. A permit will not be released until plans have been reviewed and approved. Compliance will be monitored by City staff through on-site inspections.”

The use of PHOS-CHEK was previously suspended because of concerns about potential negative impacts.

With the new safeguards, the city says they’re satisfied any risks would be minimal.
