North Bay and area continues to show its support for major big time curling.

Last week we told you 27,000 tickets have been sold for the Masters part of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling.

Action starts next Tuesday night and goes until Sunday at Memorial Gardens.

Event chair Mark Brown says the economic impact has gone up from the original estimate.

“When this event was booked it was suggested the economic impact would be $1.8 million. That has been revised due to the pre-event ticket sales. It’s now around $4 million,” he says.

Brown says this event will boost the sport in a big way.

“We saw substantial growth in our curling club after the world ladies. Our membership numbers increased by 17 %. We’re anticipating that trend to continue as we bring these type of events to North Bay. People are becoming more interested in the sport,” Brown says.
