The power play was clicking in a 7-5 North Bay Battalion win over the Soo Greyhounds yesterday.

The Troops went 5-for-6 on the man advantage, stuffing the net with pucks on Thanksgiving Monday.

Battalion Head coach Stan Butler says they’ve switched to a five forward power play unit.

“We made a decision about a week ago, I said to (Assistant Coach) Scott Wray let’s go with five forwards on the first power play, either we’ll score or be scored upon and so far it’s kind of working our way,” he says.

Matthew Struthers (pictured) scored a hat trick while Brandon Coe, Paul Christopoulos, Brad Chenier, and Kyle Jackson also scored for North Bay.

Joe Vrbetic made 28 saves in Monday’s win.

Coupled with Saturday’s 8-2 win over Niagara, Butler says the two long weekend victories are important.

“It’s important we get some wins because our schedule doesn’t get any easier, we head to Saginaw, Flint and the Soo, it’s not an easy schedule to start the year,” he says.

The Troops are in Saginaw this coming Friday, Flint on Saturday and Sault Ste Marie on Sunday.
