A win to start the season for the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team.

Brianna Gaffney, Hunter Mosher and Maria Dominico scored for the Lakers in a 3-1 win over Laurentian in Sudbury.

Danika Ranger had 21 saves for the winners.

In OUA men’s hockey, the Nipissing Lakers are in Sudbury Friday to play Laurentian.

The Lakers are 3-0-1, with three wins and a shootout loss, so far this season.

The Nipissing soccer teams are home to RMC on Saturday.

The women then wrap up the regular season hosting Queens on Sunday while the Nipissing men visit Ryerson.

The NDA senior football semifinals go Friday.

St Joseph-Scollard Hall is home to Algonquin at 4 pm at Cundari Field.

West Ferris plays Widdifield at 7 pm at the Omischl Complex.

Only one game this weekend for the Powassan Voodoos — but it’s a battle for top spot in the league.

The Voodoos are home to Timmins on Saturday night.

Powassan leads the NOJHL standings with 26 points. Timmins is right behind with 25 points.

The Canadore men’s basketball team opens their season at home to Sheridan on Saturday.

They also host Sault College on Sunday.

Both Canadore volleyball teams also begin their seasons this weekend — with home court advantage.

They play Fleming on Saturday.

The North Bay Minor Bantam AAA Trappers went 0-3-1 at an event in London.

After opening with a 1-1 tie against Quinte, the Trappers fell by scores of 7-0 to Grey-Bruce,  2-1 to a Chicago team and 5-3 to the host squad.

The Minor Peewee AAA Trappers faced off against the Soo Greyhounds three times in North Bay and lost by scores of 6-1, 8-1 and 6-0.
