There have been more impaired drivers charged this year within the area the North Bay OPP covers than all of last year.

This after six motorists were charged with impaired driving in the past five days.

There have been 52 charged in 2019 and in all of 2018 there were 49.

The motorists charged are from North Bay, Nipissing First Nation, Papineau-Cameron Township, Petrolia and Elliot Lake.

Four of the six charged are male.

North Bay OPP has released the results of the Fall Seatbelt Campaign.

20 seatbelt related charges were laid.

Meantime, OPP officers also took part in Operation Impact over the Thanksgiving Long Weekend.

Officers targeted motorists for impaired driving, distracted driving, failure to wear seatbelts and speeding / aggressive driving.

49 charges were laid in those areas including 45 for speeding.

There were also three moving violations and one seatbelt related charge.

The West Nipissing Detachment of the OPP is seeking the public’s assistance with a theft investigation.
Police say last Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., a pair of Night Vision Binoculars were stolen from the Canadian Tire store in Sturgeon Falls.

The binoculars are valued at $400.
