Expect to see an increased presence from North Bay OPP around school bus routes in identified hot spots, starting today.

That’s because they’re running a ‘focus patrol’ on speeding vehicles during school bus hours and drivers not stopping for the red overhead lights on school buses.

The campaign runs from today to November 15th.

North Bay OPP say since school started they’ve received 21 complaints of vehicles not stopping for school buses.

Last year during the same time-frame the North Bay OPP investigated 9 incidents.

“Our goal is to educate the public and reduce the number of complaints involving vehicles that fail to stop for a school bus with the red overhead lights activated,” says Staff Sergeant Bill McMullen, Detachment Commander of the North Bay OPP. “Working in partnership with the Let’s Remember Adam Campaign, we aim to make highways safer for all children riding school buses, to prevent any more tragedies from happening.”

The Let’s Remember Adam Campaign is a charitable organization that was created following the death of Adam Ranger on February 11, 2000.

Accompanied by his older brother, Alex, five year-old Adam was exiting the school bus at the end of his school day when suddenly he was struck and killed on Highway 17 near Mattawa in front of the family’s home.
