A local student athlete has been named to the 2019 Nissan All-Canadian TITAN football team. James Piper from West Ferris Secondary is one of 70 high school football athletes selected to experience 107th Grey Cup festivities in Calgary.

The student-athletes will meet and train with peers from across Canada, attend the 2019 CFL Awards, play in an exhibition game on November 23 (at Shouldice Athletic Park), and watch the 107th Grey Cup Championship game live at McMahon Stadium.

Piper’s coach at West Ferris Mark Robertson told BayToday he’s a good receiver and runner.

“He’s a super hard worker and prepares himself really well in the season and during the off season works hard so he’s ready to play,” Robertson says.

He says he’s also a great student as he’s averaging over 90 % in the classroom.

“He’s an outstanding recruit for universities. He’s going to survive the rigors of university and be able to balance that with football,” he says.

The Trojans, meantime, take on Korah from the Soo for the NOSSA title on Saturday at the Omischl Complex.
