The Salvation Army kettle campaign begins

The Salvation Army’s 2019 Kettle Campaign is underway locally.

Corps Officer Major Bonita McGory accepted one of the first donations from Mayor Al McDonald at noon today outside of Twiggs on Fraser Street.

“Our goal this year is $150,000 and another $70,000 on our mailout,” Major McGory says.

Funds raised support their family services programs all year round.

“It pays for hampers at Christmas, it pays for kids that camp in the summer, it pays for backpacks at school and just about everything else we do,” she says.

After debit machines were introduced last year, there are more available for residents to make donations this year.

“This year we have debit machines at Walmart, Independent, Sobey’s and Metro,” Major McGory says. “When the LCBO Algonquin comes online in December, they will have a debit machine, as well.”
