Recently we told you that North Bay OPP were undertaking a focus patrol on vehicles not stopping for school bus lights.

The campaign ran from November 4th to the 15th, and the results are in.

Police say logged hours of patrol on school bus routes and received only one complaint.

They say on November 8th at about 4 pm a transport failed to stop for the red lights of a stopped school bus on Hwy 11 north, in the City of North Bay.

Officers located the tractor trailer and the driver was charged with failing to stop for a school bus.

The Highway Traffic Act states that motorists traveling in both directions must stop for a stopped school bus that has its overhead red signal-lights flashing.

Drivers are not to proceed until the lights on the school bus have stopped flashing.

Penalties include fines from $400 to $4000 and six demerit points upon conviction.

Police reminder drivers that the stop arm on the school bus does not have to be extended.

Vehicle owners can also be charged if their vehicle illegally passes a stopped school bus, regardless of who was driving the vehicle at the time.

Police ask everyone to drive safe and slow down when they see a school bus, because you never know when they may need to stop.

North Bay OPP are investigating a break-in to a residence on Hwy 522 in East Mills Township, that saw three Samurai Swords and numerous firearms stolen.

Police say they include rifles, a shotgun and revolvers.

Gold, platinum and silver bullion valued at about $50,000 was also taken along with coins valued at about $2,000.

The break-in happened between Nov 10th and 12th.
