For only the third time in its history the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce has a woman leading its board of directors.

Recently, Rebecca McGlynn, the Director of Marketing and Communications at Ontario Northland was elected to the post.

She joins Daphne Mayne and Marie Marchand. She told BayToday this sends a positive message.

“I hope this inspires young women that leadership positions aren’t out of reach. Overall, having diversity in an organization brings great decision making,” she says.

She says she will be highlighting more involvement in chamber events and activities.

“I will be promoting the value of becoming a chamber member and the board will be developing a new strategic plan,” McGlynn says.

The chamber is proving to be quite inclusive and diverse as the new board has nine women on it.

Mayne was elected in 1977 and Marchand in 1987 and again the next year.

In the fall, McGlynn won the Betty Alcorn Memorial Award which is for chamber director of the year.
