A councillor motion from Marcus Tignanelli that looks to investigate the idea of a ward system in North Bay is coming to next week’s regular Council meeting.

He says it asks the clerk to prepare a report on the implementation of a ward system, for information purposes.

“It not linked to any decision and it’s not saying we want or don’t want a ward system. It’s saying we want the facts so we can make a fact based decision,” he says.

He believes there’s a desire to investigate the creation of a ward system for the 2022 Municipal Election.

Tignanelli doesn’t know why anyone would oppose the motion.

“I can’t imagine anyone would say no to wanting more information on a topic they’ve already publicly commented on,” Tignanelli says.

He says going to a ward system was a hot topic during last years municipal election campaign.

“Whether for or against the facts are no one knows the facts. It’s nice to have personal opinions but we can make a better informed decision once we know the facts,” he says.

The motion is seconded by Councillor Johanne Brousseau.
