There’s no school today for students in JK to grade eight at the Near North Board.

Their schools are closed because of the one-day rotating strike being held by the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario.

The board says childcare-related and community use of the schools is not impacted.

All of the schools will be back open tomorrow.

Along with several school locations and the Board office, teachers will be picketing outside Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli’s office this morning.

Meantime, the government-appointed mediator has called the two sides back to the table. Negotiations will resume today for the first time in over a month.

Still with labour issues in education… the 17th edition of the “Quand ça nous chante” music festival that was lined up for ESC Algonquin, February 13th to the 17th has been cancelled.

That announcement from Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord and its partner Association des professionnels de la chanson et de la musique (APCM),

Officials say it’s because of the work-to-rule measures underway involving French-language teachers.

They say boards across the province were having difficulty taking part because of current pressures like access to supply staff and participation in extra-curriculars, plus a number of schools had withdrawn.
