A new program that teaches financial literacy, entrepreneurship and more to local elementary students is launching later today.

The kickoff for Lemonade Day North Bay goes at 5:30 pm at the North Bay YMCA.

Program and Events Coordinator with The Business Centre Nipissing Parry Sound, Kennedy Horton, says the program is all about impacting the next generation of business leaders.

Lemonade Day is an opportunity for youth to start, own and operate their own lemonade stand,” she says.

Students get to keep the money they earn and are encouraged to spend some, save some for the future, and share some by giving to a local charity of their choice.

They’re hoping to have 120 students take part.

Registration starts today with the launch, with “Lemonade Lessons” and training coming up April 8th (5-7pm).

To help them with financial literacy, marketing, how to advertise themselves, how to network with different people, so it teaches them different lessons, then they’re able to brand their stand and put their stand on a map,” Horton says.

This is also a first for North Bay, and Ontario.

“North Bay is the first city within Ontario that holds a Lemonade Day International License,” Horton says.

Stands will be set up and judged on Lemonade Day, which is June 6th.
