A few medals for lifters from the North Bay Norsemen and Valkyries team at a couple of high level events recently.

At the Ontario Masters, 2019 Canadian champion Sylvie Guenette, from Sturgeon Falls, won gold in the female 64 kilo category in the 50 year + age division.

She plans to defend her national crown in Winnipeg on the long weekend in May.

North Bay lifter Dave Harding won the male 81 kilo category in the 40 year + age division.

He has qualified for the Canadian Masters but has yet to commit to lifting in Winnipeg.

At the Ontario Winter Games 13 year old Griffin Lamarche (pictured), a Chippewa student, won bronze in the male 61 kilo weight category.

Later in the day, 14 year old Ruth Chouinor, also a Chippewa student, placed 5th in the female over 59 kilo category.

The next major weightlifting competition in North Bay will be the 2020 edition of the Ontario Scholastic Challenge.

The event is taking place at Canadore College’s Commerce Court Campus on Saturday, April 4th.
