Several members of 22 Wing has been recognized with regional awards.

The recipients include Captain Dylan Grimm, 51 Aerospace Control & Warning (Operational Training) Squadron, Warrant Officer Tim Gillespie, Operations Support Squadron (OSS), and Sergeant Danette Weyh, 21 Aerospace Control & Warning Squadron.

Also recognized at the February 26th ceremony were Corporal Joshua Berkelmans, OSS and Mr. Wade Pye, OSS, who received the Canadian NORAD Region Award for outstanding accomplishments in support of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) missions.

Capt. Dylan Grimm was awarded the 22 Wing Commander Junior Officer Annual Service Person Award in recognition of his outstanding initiative and leadership. As Air Battle Management (ABM) Course Director, Capt. Grimm led a team of instructors in qualifying 15 ABMs, while achieving several key milestones including integration with the United States Air Force’s 337th Air Control Squadron, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, and the delivery of courseware from the Mission Training Centre. Extremely dedicated, his efforts as Community Council Mayor, Canadian Forces Museum of Aerospace Defence Director and Wing Flight Safety Officer have had untold impact across 22 Wing.

Warrant Officer Tim Gillespie’s genuine leadership is unquestionable as seen daily with the level of support he provides his subordinates. As the Operations Support Squadron Exercise Chief, Warrant Officer Gillespie supervised and coordinated over 180 higher headquarters and 22 Wing Domestic exercises. Warrant Officer Gillespie is the President of the 22 Wing Film Club, 22 Wing North Bay 2019 Winter Carnival coordinator, orchestrated a highly successful event for over 350 personnel. Warrant Officer Gillespie’s impressive accomplishments identify him as a top performer at 22 Wing and within NORAD.

Sergeant (Sgt.) Danette Weyh is being recognized for her superior performance and dedication to the wing and the local community. A consummate professional, her performance as the unit’s Ground Training Non-Commissioned Member (NCM), Air Surveillance Technician subject matter expert and Alternate Unit Security Supervisor has been stellar. She also supports the wing as the Flight Safety NCM. She devotes countless hours volunteering for the local community. Sgt. Weyh is recognized for her outstanding professionalism and her extraordinary commitment to 22 Wing and 21 Aerospace Control & Warning Squadron.

Corporal (Cpl.) Joshua Berkelmans has demonstrated exemplary performance and excellence in all pursuits during the past year. Cpl. Berkelmans is a highly respected 22 Wing member who contributes wholeheartedly to the Canadian Air Defence Sector and NORAD mission through his work at 22 Wing Operations Support Squadron as primary Surveillance Operator Evaluator. A credit to his country and profession, Cpl Berkelmans has excelled in every regard; a stellar performer, a consummate professional and an integral member of the 22 Wing team.

Mr. Wade Pye is recognized for his unwavering dedication to technical excellence in the field of networked tactical data link operations. By leveraging his intrinsic understanding of networked operations and extensive network of contacts he ensured continuity of Canadian NORAD Region, NORAD, and North Atlantic Treaty Organization operations and training. His belief in the inherent potential offered by data link operations coupled with his selfless contributions has ensured he continues to be at the forefront of network development, interoperability, and integration.
