The Municipal Heritage Committee plans to have a busy year.

Chair Peter Handley says they will have two major designations: one recognizing former Mayor Jack Burrows in the square outside the North Bay Museum and one recognizing the importance of the airport and the air base.

He says he saw first hand as a councillor what a great man Burrows was.

“I watched him play a little bit of ball. I dealt with him as an individual, a mayor and as a fellow member of the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame Committee. I had all the time in the world for Jack,” he says.

As for the airport plaque.

“Actually, the story deserves two plaques, one for the airport and one for the base so we’ve combined the two,” Handley says.

Burrows Country Store and Garden Centre will also be recognized with a certificate honoring businesses that have been in the community for over a century.

Handley is also hoping the city will create space in the lobby at city hall on important heritage items.
