Senior leadership at the North Bay Police Service is recognizing the importance of helping their members with PTSD or Occupational Stress Injuries.
That from Chief Scott Tod, who tells BayToday they’re taking steps to implement programs.
“In this year’s budget we were able to establish a wellness co-ordinator position for nine months within the organization to set up programs that we should have in place like many other police services to address the mental well-being of their members and their families,” he says.
Another initiative is a peer-to-peer network like ones the fire department and EMS have.
“Having people that are recognized within the workplace that can either approach or be approached by members in the workplace and be trusted to provide information that will help with their well-being and be able to help direct them towards programs or services in our community,” Tod adds.
He says like any other police service across the province they have a similar number of members off work because of PTSD or Occupational Stress Injuries (OSI).
